How to Install Uber on Mac or PC Desktop Computer
Many of us today utilize the handy app on our mobile phones & tablets, but are stuck stranded when those devices are not available. I remember one time I lost my phone and had to wait a few days for a mobile replacement, well in those couple of days I realize that my life was about to change. I was Uberless. Sure, I could just call a cab or taxi service, but over the years Uber has spoiled me. I like to know who’s my driver, when he or she is arriving, and take a look at their rating. I had to fix this problem quickly. Here’s how I did it.
- Install VirtualBox
- Signup & Install Genymontion
- Install a Virtual Device in Genymotion
- Load files provided below into Virtual Device
- Install Uber
- Set GPS
- Request Cab
First, you’re going to go https://www.virtualbox.org and download the correct one for your system. After download is complete, go ahead and install it.
Next step is to get Genymotion which is an Android phone simulator which is what’s going to allow you install Uber app on your Mac or PC. (You’ll have to setup an account which is free and take less then a min to do) Click Here to create an account. Remember the username and password you create you’ll need this later.
Next download Genymotion for your platform HERE. Don’t worry you don’t need to purchase a license for Genymotion it will work flawlessly without it. Just click “Get Genymotion” for Mac. Windows users will click “Get Genymotion without virtualbox”
After you download and install Genymotion you want to open it along with VirtualBox. Make sure they are both open. When Genymotion is launched click on settings and enter the username and password you created for your account. Check Save my Credentials option and click ok
Now that you are logged in. Click the + add button and select a virtual device. We selected the Galaxy S3. You can select any device you want, just make sure it’s a 4.3 model it seem to work best. Click next
Click Next, To create your virtual device
Click Finish, Now your virtual device has been successfully set up
Once you’ve installed your device, you’ll want to run it by pressing the play button. This will bring up your mobile platform on your Desktop.
You will be prompted with a welcome message. Just click the blue OK button
Now your going to need to download some special files. To download them Click Here. Unzip and place the two files (Genymotion-ARM-Translation_v1.1 & gapps-jb-20130813-signed) on your desktop. We are going to be loading these file to your device. The order in which their loaded in important.
First drag the following file into your file (Genymotion-ARM-Translation_v1.1 ) into your virtual device. Please make sure you are dragging in the right file. The or
You will be prompted with a message box asking you if you want to flash your device, Just click on OK to continue.
It will continue to the file transfer process
Click Ok, and to restart you are going to press the X button on your mobile window. The mobile interface will close
Now press the play button in GenyMotion again. (This is how you restart you phone)
Device will now be started up again. It may take a moment to the new information being loaded.
Unlock the device by using you mouse to click and drag the lock to the outer ring
Now drag in the following file (gapps-jb-20130813-signed) into your virtual device
It will process your file transfer.
Here you will get a message box. Click ok
It will start to process the file transfer.
Here you will get an error message saying that it has fail to flash, this is normal and you can click ok. If any other menu pop up you may click on to at this point
Time to restart your Device again. Press the X button on the mobile window and Press the Play button in Genymotion. It may take a while to load due to the software youve loaded on it. This will update your device and get it prepared for you.
Device will startup. Unlock it if locked, and you will see the Home Screen. Use you mouse to click on the menu button
You will see an intro menu. Click OK
Now you want to click the GooglePlay Store.
Login to your Google account to access the GooglePlay store. (If you don’t have a google account, set one up here and continue.
Enter you google information.
Agree to the Terms of Service. Click OK
Uncheck both boxes that are checked and click the right arrow button
Accept the additional GooglePlay terms by click Accept
Now you will have access to GooglePlay Store. Click the search icon and type in Uber
Now click install to install Uber
Accept app promissions by click the accept button
Uber will start to Install. Click open when finished
Click on GPS, And turn it on, it will be highlighted in pink once on. Once activated click on Map button in the GPS menu. Enter your address or the address of your choice.
Then close the map and gps and sign into you Uber account.
Enter your Uber SignIn information
Now you have access to your Uber account, This is how you Install Uber on Mac or PC Desktop and can request an Uber from the comfort of your laptop or desktop computer.
